Solutions Architecture

Beyond Project Management

At Lucid Solutions Group we see you as far more than an isolated project. At any one time you may have any number of ongoing projects being lead by different teams. All too often the impact of these projects are not fully understood beyond a group of immediate stake holders. By the time a problem occurs that effects another group it is too late to bring them up to speed. Suddenly, a series of unexpected issues occur that threaten to  bring the primary project to a screeching halt. We have all been in this situation because project teams are often too focused on their own projects without taking into consideration the impact on other groups in the organization. Instead of isolated islands IT projects must be viewed as pieces of larger technology ecosystems.

The Systems Perspective

We view your network environment as a complete system that could be impacted by the work that we do. It is important to understand all of the moving parts of your network and how they impact each other. From helpdesk to network and software architecture, solutions management examines all of these pieces. Somewhere in that examination process it may be discovered that we are about to implement something that the overall environment is not ready for. This will allow you to reconsider your requirements and determine what has to be done to prepare yourself and your teams for the new technology.

Setting Priorities

Once this larger ecosystem is identified with all of its parts only then can priorities be set. Should you virtualize your environment first or migrate your mail system? How does switching to Active Directory effect my VPN users? Should we really be purchasing new server hardware or beefing up our storage systems? Where can I get the most value for the money I spend? Setting these types of priorities becomes much easier when you view your environment as a complete system of interconnected parts. This goes far beyond project or change mangement. This is the beginning of Solutions Management.
